| This past weekend, several media sources reported people in the U.S. contracting the Swine Flu virus, which is reported to have originated in Mexico. Currently, there are confirmed reports in Kansas, New York, California, Texas and Ohio.
About the Swine Flu
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has determined that this swine influenza A (H1N1) virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human. However, at this time, it not known how easily the virus spreads between people. There is no vaccine available right now to protect against swine flu, although there are treatments available for those who contract the flu.
Staying Healthy
There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza.
Stay home if you are sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.For additional info:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swine_influenzahttp://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090429/ap_on_he_me/med_swine_flu

| OMG now the flu is on here......lol
The flu is the flu. The flu don't kill it. The reason this is such a big deal and killed so many in Mexico is poor health care. Which is why there running here and which is why its spreading. This is no different then the original flu we have every year this one just has no vaccine which means you will be sick as shit.
I love how they make a big deal out of nothing these days. But it got a little attention off the jack ass running the country

| I was saying the same thing just yesterday. The only reason all these people are dying in mexico is because of their health care system. | |

| If your not deathly afriad of the seasonal flu there really is nothing to be afraid of. but our fearless leader getting on primetime tv talking about a possible pandemic doesnt really help. and most americans not knowing the difference between a pandemic and epidemic doesnt help either. im kinda anxious about it though because ill be spending about 3 months in mexico pretty soon i hope they dont do anything stupid and close down the border. although closing the border might not be a bad thing | |
